Sydney, Australia is known for its sunshine, but when its residents woke up during the morning depicted below, they found themselves in a place that looked more like Mars or the Armageddon. Sydney siders woke to a red dawn morning as a huge dust storm blanketed the city. A huge dust storm – carrying 5 million tons of dust — swept eastern Australia and blanketed Sydney. A dust storm turns Sydney a dramatic red before mellowing to an impermeable golden haze unlike anything ever seen before. The storm interrupted international flights, and health officials urged people to stay indoors. Check out these pictures of that dust storm from 2009. Enjoy.
